Wood has a natural tendency to expand and contract over time, especially in high humidity or very dry climates. I do what I can to minimize the scale of this natural occurrence by adding several layers of sealant to each of my wood pieces, which minimizes the moisture change that causes these fluctuations in the wood. But there are times when it is inevitable, especially in the drier climates, and some minor wood splits or small cracks appear (in millimeters). I think of this as the piece adapting and personalizing to the individual location, but if you have concerns please ask me for more information prior to your purchase.
