"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” - Henry David Thoreau
My wife and I shared a dream. We wanted to live a simple, sustainable life. We wanted control of our time and our careers. We wanted to make family a priority. We wanted a pet pig. I'm still waiting for that pig.
Scrap Wood Designs is our dream. It began in our garage in 2011. Jaclyn was already a talented artist working in painting, photography, and stained glass, but when she started working with reclaimed wood everything clicked. In 2012, she left her cubicle job to focus fully on her art.
The business grew as most good things grow: slowly and with a lot of hard work. In 2015, the business outgrew our garage. We needed more space, so we left Seattle for Whidbey Island to get a proper workshop. Now we both work on Scrap Wood Designs full time.
We're still growing and we're still working hard, but we love what we do. That love shows in the art we create and the way we run our business. That's never going to change.
Our business is built on three pillars:
- Customers - Your satisfaction always comes first. That's why we've taken the risk out of buying art online with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you aren't completely happy with your purchase, you can return it for a full refund. Please see our return policy for more details.
- Quality - We constantly strive to improve every day as woodworkers and as artists. We've already been producing heirloom quality work for years, and we're only getting better.
- Creativity - We want to provide a selection of art and furniture that is as unique as you and the space that you're decorating. Whether it's an existing design or a completely custom design, it will always be made by us, made by hand, and made to order. Every piece we make is truly one of a kind.
Meet your woodworkers:
|The ArtistJaclyn Miller||The GeekDavid Montgomery|
Jaclyn is a bona fide artist. She studied fine art at St. Lawrence University in New York.
Jaclyn’s love of woodworking comes from her dad, a general contractor in Eastern Washington. Together they've tackled projects ranging from framing pictures all the way to framing houses. Jaclyn still consults with her father regularly, primarily on the acquisition of new power tools.
Jaclyn does all of the talented work for Scrap Wood Designs. In her free time, she enjoys cross-stitching while watching Pride and Prejudice.
David graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Applied Computational and Mathematical Science with a focus in Mathematical Economics. He then spent nearly a decade working as a financial analyst in the health insurance industry. With nothing left to prove in the world of maths, he decided to try something completely different.
David does most of the sawing, sanding, and shipping for Scrap Wood Designs, as well the website and social media stuff. David is a bona fide geek, so when not working on Scrap Wood Designs he's usually playing board games or video games.
